Horațiu Șovăială is a Romanian photographer based in Zürich, Switzerland.
Horațiu studied at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, with a focus on contemporary photography and video art. He works at the intersection of conceptual photography, documentary practice, and cinematic staging. His approach extends beyond traditional documentary photography, exploring how memory, history, and identity are constructed through images.
Horațiu draws inspiration from diverse archives of historical and contemporary imagery, bringing together fragments of the past and present to examine an era in flux. His images blur the line between carefully staged scenes and moments that appear immediate, factual, and lived.
